Electricity is something people in the developed world take for granted. However, with rising levels of pollution and depleting nonrenewable resources, the transition to sustainable energy has become a "must." While most urban areas are well equipped with facilities that transfer electricity, rural areas, particularly in developing countries, are not always connected to energy suppliers. By investing in sustainable energy, residents of rural areas will not only gain the access to life necessities such as hot water and electricity but will also encourage public works projects that reduce unemployment.

As the Economic and Social Council, it is the council's duty to develop cost-effective solutions to resolve the issue at hand. Consider the following questions. Who is able to invest in these projects? What incentives do all groups of people have by investing in sustainable energy? How do the benefits outweigh the detriments of sustainable energy? When discussing this agenda and drafting resolutions, consider not only how to answer these questions effectively but also how you can utilize your national stance.

John Cheng is a junior attending Asia Pacific International School (APIS). He started to attend MUN conference since 2015. He has attended 4 conferences total: MUNEXUS 2016, KMUN, GLIS MUN 14, and HAIS MUN V. Just like most delegates who are new to MUN, he also did not speak much at his first conference. In his second conference, KMUN, he learned how to speak in public as the main submitter of a resolution. In GLIS MUN 14, he fully understood what delegates' roles are and spoke many times. With massive amounts of research, he finally received the best delegate award in HAISMUN V.

Irene Lee is a senior attending Taejon Christian International School (TCIS). Although she started her Model United Nations career in her later high school years, her passion and curiosity to further her knowledge on global relations have got her to attend numerous conferences in South Korea. She is greatly looking forward to the fruitful discussions to be held at MUNEFF.
